JOB SUMMARY
The Information Technology (IT) Intern will assist the Information Technology Department with entry-level technical support, equipment organization, inventory management, and administrative technology projects. Student interns will help organize technology equipment, support device inventory tracking, assist with basic technology setup activities, and observe how technology systems support healthcare operations.
IT Interns will gain exposure to information technology, computer systems, networking, cybersecurity awareness, healthcare technology, and technical support while exploring careers within the technology industry.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Watts Healthcare Center Summer Internship Program provides high school students with hands-on career exploration opportunities within a professional healthcare environment. Interns will work alongside experienced technology professionals while learning workplace expectations, communication skills, and industry-specific practices.
This position is designed to connect students to Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways while developing skills in technology, problem-solving, communication, organization, customer service, and professional workplace readiness.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technology Support Assistance
Assist staff with organizing computers, peripherals, and technology equipment.
Help prepare equipment for deployment and distribution.
Support basic technology setup activities under staff supervision.
Observe technical support and troubleshooting processes.
Inventory & Asset Management
Assist with tracking technology inventory and equipment records.
Help organize storage areas and technology resources.
Support inventory audits and equipment documentation projects.
Assist with labeling and organizing technology assets.
Administrative & Documentation Support
Assist with filing, scanning, and organizing technology records.
Support data entry and documentation projects.
Help maintain accurate inventory and equipment records.
Assist with preparing materials for meetings, trainings, and projects.
Cybersecurity & Technology Awareness
Learn basic cybersecurity and digital safety concepts.
Participate in discussions regarding data security and technology best practices.
Observe how healthcare organizations protect technology systems and information.
Learn the importance of confidentiality and responsible technology use.
Career Exploration & Professional Development
Participate in workplace learning experiences and career readiness activities.
Learn about educational pathways leading to technology careers.
Observe professionals working in information technology environments.
Develop communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in Compton Unified School District.
Preferred Junior or Senior standing.
Preferred CTE pathway student or rising CTE pathway student.
Interest in healthcare, science, networking, computer science, game design or IT careers.
Demonstrates responsibility, professionalism, and dependability.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff and peers.

Prior to internship start date, selected students will need to demonstrate:
CPR Certification
Current TB Clearance (within the last 6 months):
TB Skin Test (PPD), or
TB QuantiFERON-TB Gold (QFT) blood test
Chest X-ray (required only for students with a history of a positive PPD or QuantiFERON-TB Gold test; must be completed within the last year)
Immune Titers:
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) IgG
Varicella (Chickenpox) IgG
Hepatitis B Surface Antibody
Immunization Records:
Tdap
COVID-19 vaccination (until further notice)
Current seasonal influenza (flu) vaccination
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Student interns will work within office and technology support environments at Watts Healthcare Center. Interns may spend time organizing equipment, assisting with inventory projects, observing technology support activities, and supporting administrative technology functions. Duties may include standing, walking, organizing equipment, lifting lightweight technology items, operating computers, and working with technology inventory systems. All interns will work under the supervision of Information Technology personnel and must adhere to workplace safety, confidentiality, cybersecurity, and professional conduct standards.
