IT Operations, Security, and Automation Apprentice - PCtronics Managed IT, Security and Automation
PCtronics is looking for a sharp, curious, and highly organized intern or apprentice who wants real-world exposure to managed IT, cybersecurity, compliance, documentation, and AI driven operations.
This is a hands-on learning role built for someone who wants to understand how a modern client environment is onboarded, documented, secured, tracked, and prepared for future automation inside a real managed services business.
The apprentice will work closely with leadership to help build and maintain accurate client environments across our internal stack. This includes learning how client data is structured, how systems connect, how assets are documented, how security controls are applied, how backup and recovery readiness are reviewed, and how all of it supports service delivery, compliance, and long term operational intelligence.
The first 60 hours will be covered through a grant-funded stipend of $1300, paid upon completion of the 60 hours.
Key Responsibilities
Client Onboarding Support
Help load new clients into the managed services stack accurately and completely.
Assist with collecting, organizing, and validating client information during onboarding.
Help ensure customer records are structured correctly across systems from the beginning.
AI Native PSA and Operations Support
Learn how to enter and maintain client records inside an AI native PSA environment.
Help determine what information must be captured so the system can support service operations, reporting, automation, and future AI workflows.
Assist with the accuracy of company records, user records, assets, tickets, and service structure.
RMM and Endpoint Operations Support
Help confirm endpoints, monitoring coverage, patching visibility, device status, and policy alignment.
Assist with maintaining accurate endpoint information so devices are deployed, monitored, and managed consistently.
Support operational review of system readiness and endpoint compliance.
Cybersecurity and Compliance Support
Help ensure clients are aligned to the correct security controls and services based on their environment and service plan.
Support onboarding tasks related to endpoint protection, identity protection, security awareness training, remediation workflows, alert handling, and response documentation.
Assist with making sure scripts, policies, operating procedures, and security records are documented correctly for each client environment.
Learn how cybersecurity controls connect to compliance expectations, especially for clients with DoD requirements or clients preparing for CMMC, ISO aligned practices, or similar security frameworks.
Help track whether required controls, documentation, and supporting records are in place so environments are easier to assess, defend, and mature over time.
Network, Systems, and Lifecycle Documentation
Document managed and unmanaged devices, users, software, licenses, relationships between systems, warranty dates, renewal dates, and ownership details inside the documentation platform.
Help maintain a full record of what is covered under service agreements and what falls outside the support boundary.
Track hardware and software lifecycle details, including age, renewal timing, licensing status, dependencies, and whether an asset is active, aging out, unsupported, or scheduled for replacement.
Learn how documentation, asset visibility, and lifecycle tracking work together to support operations, security, budgeting, renewals, and long term planning.
Support the cleanup, standardization, and accuracy of client records so each customer profile is complete and usable across the stack.
Backup, Recovery, and Resilience Readiness
Help review and document how client backups are configured, what data is being protected, how often backups run, where backup data is stored, whether storage is offsite or cloud based, what security protects it, and whether recovery expectations are clearly defined.
Learn how to identify whether backups are automated, whether all critical systems are included, whether retention is appropriate, and whether backup records are complete and current.
Assist with documenting backup governance details such as encryption, access controls, storage protections, monitoring, and the handling of sensitive or regulated data.
Help review whether recovery procedures are documented, whether backups are tested, and whether the client has realistic recovery expectations for key systems and business operations.
Internal Process Improvement
Help refine the onboarding workflow so it becomes cleaner, more accurate, and easier to scale.
Assist with improving how managed IT, security, compliance, and documentation are connected internally.
Support efforts to make internal systems more automation ready and more useful for future AI driven operations.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is curious, coachable, organized, and serious about learning. The right person should be comfortable working with technical systems, paying attention to detail, following structure, and asking good questions. More than anything, this role is for someone who wants to learn how modern IT, security, compliance, and automation actually work together in practice.
Success in This Role
Success in this role means learning the systems, understanding why each layer of the stack matters, and becoming more confident and curious over time. A strong apprentice will not just complete tasks accurately, but will also start understanding how documentation, onboarding, security, compliance, backup readiness, and automation fit together as one operational model.
This role is meant to produce real skill. The apprentice will be learning how modern client environments are built, protected, documented, tracked, and prepared for the future.
