Electrical & Instrumentation Technician Internship (Wastewater Treatment)
Location: Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority (VVWRA), 20111 Shay Rd., Victorville
Type: Paid Internship
Schedule: 100 hours, 2 days per week, June 1-July 23, 2026
Position Summary
This summer internship provides a unique opportunity for students interested in electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems to gain hands-on experience within a wastewater treatment facility. Interns will assist skilled technicians with a variety of support tasks that reinforce foundational E&I skills in real-world environments.
Through supervised involvement in troubleshooting, calibration, monitoring, and documentation, interns will explore how electrical and control systems ensure safe and effective wastewater operations.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Systems Support
Assist with basic electrical troubleshooting in motors, pumps, and control panels
Perform safety checks on wiring and electrical components
Help with preventative maintenance such as cleaning and visual inspections
Instrumentation & Control Systems
Support calibration of flow meters, pH sensors, and pressure transducers
Observe SCADA and PLC systems to understand monitoring and automation
Log instrument readings and operational data for analysis
Maintenance & Tool Assistance
Assist in replacing components like relays, fuses, and indicator lights
Manage and organize tools used for E&I tasks
Document completed work in maintenance systems
Operational Monitoring
Learn how to monitor alarms, dashboards, and performance indicators
Help identify and report unusual readings or potential equipment issues
Assist with recordkeeping and log formatting
Technical Documentation & Training Support
Update wiring diagrams, SOPs, and equipment documentation
Assist with training content for new instruments or procedures
Project & Research Participation
Take part in special projects such as instrument installations or system upgrades
Conduct guided research on new technologies or best practices
Help prepare visual materials and summaries for internal presentations
Qualifications
Strong interest in electronics, control systems, or environmental utilities
Must be safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions
Comfortable working in technical and industrial environments, indoor and outdoor
Ability to obtain a work permit
