Position Overview
The Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District is seeking a compassionate, bilingual Paraprofessional – English Language Support to join our educational team. Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services (or designee) or the site Principal, this position provides academic and linguistic support to students—particularly English Learners—helping them build confidence and proficiency in both English and their academic subjects.
The ideal candidate is patient, culturally sensitive, and committed to creating an inclusive environment where every student can succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Work individually or in small groups with students to improve their English language skills and understanding across subjects.
- Administer and assist with language assessments to evaluate student progress.
- Maintain accurate student progress records and assist with data tracking for language acquisition.
- Support teachers by preparing instructional materials, maintaining student files, and performing related clerical tasks.
- Supervise students in the classroom, on the playground, during campus activities, and on field trips.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to monitor and discuss student progress.
- Serve as an interpreter or resource for staff when communicating with non-English-speaking parents or students.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions as directed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Classroom management and motivational techniques.
- Adolescent development and learning needs.
- Basic instructional strategies and support methods.
- Proper English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic math skills.
- Modern office equipment and technology tools.
Ability to:
- Speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish (or another required foreign language).
- Communicate effectively in both English and the target language with students, parents, and staff.
- Follow written and oral directions accurately.
- Quickly learn new instructional materials and classroom procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Adapt to changes in routines and assignments with flexibility.
- Sit for extended periods and use computers for clerical and instructional tasks.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and community members.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds.
- Maintain punctual, reliable, and consistent attendance.
Employment Standards
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- College-level coursework preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience (paid or volunteer) working with children in an educational setting preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
- TB test clearance.
- Pre-employment physical and drug screening.
- Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance.
- Passage of a district-administered competency test in the specified foreign language.
