Position Overview
The Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District is seeking a dedicated and energetic Paraprofessional – Physical Education to join our team. Under the direction of the Principal (or designee) and with guidance from a certificated Physical Education Teacher, this position provides instructional support and supervision for students during physical education activities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for promoting health, teamwork, and active lifestyles among students.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, assist, and participate in individual, group, and team sports, as well as other physical fitness activities.
- Guide students through warm-up and stretching routines.
- Emphasize and model proper safety practices; inspect equipment and play areas for safety.
- Organize, set up, and maintain materials and equipment for a variety of PE activities.
- Supervise and manage student behavior in accordance with school procedures.
- Report student progress, performance, and behavior to the teacher.
- Perform clerical duties such as maintaining records, preparing instructional materials, and tracking daily activities.
- Provide basic first aid or assistance to injured students.
- Assist in planning program activities and administering physical fitness assessments.
- Attend staff meetings, in-service sessions, and training as assigned.
- Recognize and accommodate students’ varying physical abilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Strategies for managing and motivating large groups of students.
- Adolescent physical, emotional, and social development.
- Basic safety procedures related to physical activity and injury prevention.
Ability to:
- Follow written and oral directions and implement lesson plans.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Adapt to changes in routines and duties.
- Communicate clearly and courteously with students, staff, and families.
- Stand and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Operate a computer, use email, and conduct basic internet research.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups of students and staff.
- Maintain reliable, punctual, and consistent attendance.
Employment Standards
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of experience working with children in physical education, recreation, or related activities preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
- TB test clearance.
- Pre-employment physical and drug screening.
- Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification (must be obtained within the first two months of employment and maintained thereafter).
